Korner Baring (Literally)

[1]
Tghari tadi aku dpt saksikan aksi ‘korner baring’ yg notorious di kalangan remaja mat motor kita.

Or rather ‘korner dan kemudian terbaring’.

Aku on the way nak gi salat Jumaat, dr simpang Shell Sg Udang menghala ke Taman Peruna. Kat simpang Terendak Permai aku bersiap nak masuk simpang ke kanan.

Dan 2 org budak remaja Melayu atas motor kapcai – tgh ketawa besar for some reason – keluar dr jalan Terendak Permai terus ke jalan besar (on which I was), at high speed and without braking, membelok ke kiri (ke arah aku).

High speed, sharp turn, non-racing type tyres. And half-functioning brains. Not the best of combination.

A moment later bebudak tu dgn motornya terbaring di atas jalan, terheret sikit for a few feet due to the momentum. And came to a halt kat depan keta aku a short distance beyond.

Nasib baik aku dah slow kan keta (partly due to the half-anticipating to this kind of foolishness in Malaysian roads), but still aku kena press harder on the brakes (not quite to the point the ABS activated). Dan keta aku stop less than 2 metres drpd diorg.

Dan bebudak tu? Apparently masih lagi ketawa (walaupun tgh terbaring), glance kejap ke arah aku with indifferent expressions, cepat-cepat naikkan motor diorg, dan tunggang balik, jalan ke arah Shell Sg Udang.

Bebudak zaman sekarang memang ‘terer’.

Another hectic day. Even the Friday afternoon got ‘hecticised’ (yeah I know I just fabricated this word) by a long-dwelled meeting.

It is quite easy to come up with many good suggestions to mitigate consequences. To fight the fire when it happens.    But not many can actually nick the budding root cause. To arrest the cause of the fire.

No wonder we spend half our lives correcting our bad planning.

Terpaksa Maghrib kat PPM. Sesampai kat Ayer Keroh dah masuk Isya’. Perut dah lapar so aku singgah terus kat Sha’s Catering. Boring la pulak nak makan sesorg. Aku sms Anuar tanya dah makan ke belum, dia kata dah dan tanya balik apsal. Aku cakap nak ajak temankan aku dinner dan aku insist. Dia kata ok tapi lepas dia Isya’ kat masjid.

[4]
Pasal dia kenyang lagi, Anuar order Milo ais bila dia sampai. Aku, a slow eater, mmg belum habiskan lagi nasi goreng ayam aku.

Aku tanya Anuar camana exam dia. Dia kata esok (Sabtu) first paper. Ahad pun ada paper. Dia kata dia kena strive lebih sikit kali ni pasal next sem khabarnya lebih susah drpd skrg. Tapi preparation-wise kali ni dia kata insha Allah ok.

[5]
Memacam lagi kami borak. Anuar cerita pasal bebudak Anderson Ipoh masa time dia dulu, cukup anti dgn bebudak MCKK. Sampai masa ada match ragbi pun hampir-hampir nak gaduh. Sampai pernah baling-baling benda kat supporting group pihak lawan.

I recall the time when the Malay Collegians struck awe in the hearts of their opponents by the sheer substance they represented, by their imposing and signified presence, by their powerful voices accompanying tuneful cheering songs…

La ni diorg resort to throwing abusive words, sampai nak gaduh-gaduh lagi… Aiseymen, tak gentlemen la diorg ni.

Then aku tanya Anuar pasal kefahaman dan gerakan Islam among students kat IPT X dia (nama IPT dirahsiakan). Dia kata administratively of course gerakan Islam is not received well kat sana. Kalau ada pun loose discussion groups yg students under BADAR kat sana buat. Some students are involved with Jamaah A (which probably admin tak kisah sgt). Jamaah B apparently takde notable influence, perhaps tak jalan langsung. Jamaah C bergerak tapi underground.    Borak lagi. Cukup seronok encounter malam tu.

These times when my wife and child are not (and will not be) here for quite some time, I know I’m not alone.
